Top 3 Off-The-Beaten-Path Restaurants in San Francisco

There are many restaurants in San Francisco that are not in the radar of hotel concierges or even with locals who don't explore other, out-of-the-way neighborhoods. Fret not though! This is why we built Dot and Pin, and with just a few clicks on Uber (or your choice of on-demand ride), you can whisk away to off-the-beaten restaurants that are a bang for your buck. Here are our top 3 choices.

1. La Ciccia (Sardinian)
We'll let you in a secret... La Ciccia is the only Sardinian restaurant in town, tucked away in a residential area in Noe Valley. Run by a husband and wife team, you'll only probably hear about this intimate restaurant from certified San Franciscan foodies because it is a local's gem, and we want to stay it that way.

Its predominantly seafood-based menu, such as squid ink fresh pasta and baby octopus in tomato stew, provides a sneak peek of what Sardinian cuisine is all about- fresh yet hearty with a burst of different flavors. If you haven't traveled to the island of Sardinia in the Mediterranean Sea, then La Ciccia will definitely inspire you to take that journey.

Tip: Entree portions can be shared at most for two people. Bookings fill up fast! So reserve at least two months in advanced.

2. Farmhouse (Thai/Fusion)
Located in the outer Mission where most rarely venture into, Farmhouse is the younger sister restaurant of more established Kitchen Story in Castro and a recipient of the Michelin Bib Gourmand. Farmhouse might not be your authentic Thai meal, but they excel in San Francisco's known Californian fusion cuisine and Instagram-worthy presentation. They also deliver good service, a lively ambiance good for groups or couples, and a satisfying meal. This establishment offers entrees in big portions- even the dessert came in a shared platter and is a show stopper so be ready with your smartphone cameras.

Tip: The fried chicken with curry sauce is a must try. Book a reservation beforehand.

Not the most authentic Thai cuisine but their fried chicken on top left is a must try!

3. Dragon Beaux (Cantonese)
From well-known Koi Palace owners, Dragon Beaux is the perfect spot for those long, hearty meals with loved ones and/or business comrades. It is set on bustling Geary street where parking is always a challenge, but with its myriad of selections of dimsum, hotpot, classic Cantonese dishes and expansive dining area, you will leave with a happy soul and mind.

It is not surprising that the must-order dishes in Dragon Beaux are the all-day dimsum and the salted egg fried rice. There are only a few Chinese restaurants in San Francisco that can execute Cantonese food really well. We've added Dragon Beaux to that list along with R&G Lounge and Hong Kong Lounge.

Reserve in advanced to avoid standing out in the cold.
