8 Women Owned Restaurants to Enjoy in San Francisco

Women's History Month lasts all of March, with International Women's Day on the 8th of March. But in the Silicon Valley and entrepreneurial hub of the world, San Francisco it is celebrated all year round with this shortlist of women-owned hotspots.

Besharam means “shameless” in Hindi, and Chef and owner Heena Patel experiments with Indian cuisine in the hottest of ways. Focusing on the Gujarati region of western India, the Californian upgrades with elements like the blue cheese naan, kim chi samosa, and an array of spunkily named cocktails (also available to go!), with a plating collaboration with HateCopy adding to the spice. Picture plates labeled "Hot Chai, Cold Revenge".

Michelin star hotspot by Aarti Shetty and her husband Chris Bleidorn which like the structure of a great song has a menu which is lyrical, inspired by tastes of the Pacific Coast and the chef’s impressive World’s 50 Best and Michelin star-filled fine dining background. The all chicken outpost is BirdBox.

James Beard Award for Outstanding Baker Belinda Leong style patisserie that has been slowly growing its empire with higher-end desserts and pastries.

San Francisco's first Nigerian restaurant is by Simi Adebajo and has Naija dinner meal that comes with sweet and spicy appetizer, rice and a grilled protein, and Naija donut holes for dessert!

Anna Weinberg and chef Jennifer Puccio have a luscious San Francisco spot that feels like a Pacific version of New York's Balthazar. Located in front of the iconic Saints Peter and Paul church and Washington Square, it attracts a vibrant vibe with stellar brunch bites in particular.

Sarah Rich and Evan Rich have their a casual, counter-service spin on Rotisserie Chicken & New American sides, like Whole-Roasted Cauliflower, Brussels Sprout Caesar, Umami Fries, Fat Rice and many more.

Amidst cupcakes and cakes and frosting and sweet things aplenty, we like the sugar cookies and cupcakes with Andrea and Corey Fanfa who won Food Network’s Cupcake Wars.

A must try liquid nitrogen ice cream in fun flavors by Robyn Sue Fisher who has a history of pioneering both in the women's space and ice cream arena.
